Statuetkę People's Choice Awards dostają osoby, które są aktualnymi "gwiazdami kultury masowej". Plebiscyt powstał w 1975 roku i początkowo bazował na badaniach opinii publicznej, potem wraz z rozwojem technologicznym zmieniły się reguły przyznawania nagród.
